An in-depth introduction to ancient Greek and Roman history, literature and culture through the lens of ancient athletics, sport and spectacle, especially from the perspective of male gender roles, including for example, the ancient Greek Olympics; famous funeral games in Greek and Latin literature; the spectacle of Roman military triumphs; the blood sports of the ancient world, famously in the Colosseum; the gymnasium and public bath.
