CLAS 313 History of Ancient Greece

(XL: HIST 313) A survey of Greek history from early beginnings to the Roman conquest. Topics to be emphasized: the formation of the city-state, the development of democracy at Athens, the two great military conflicts of the fifth century B.C. (the Persian and the Peloponnesian wars), ancient Greek historians and their interpretation of history. PRQ: HIST 101 or CLAS 123 or consent of instructor. Scheduled: Alternate years. Meets: LNOS.
