MATH 325 Theory of Numbers

Topics include properties of integers, Euclid's algorithm, divisibility, primes, congruences, quadratic residues and reciprocity, number theoretic functions, Diophantine equations and Gaussian integers. Emphasis is on rigor; the theorems of Fermat, Euler, Wilson, Lagrange and Gauss are established. PRQ: MATH 300 or consent of instructor. Scheduled: Fall, even years. Meets: MNO.
