Residence Life
http://www.rockford.edu/community/reslife/
Living on campus is an important part of the educational experience at Rockford University. Our residential facilities create an environment for students to study, socialize, become more self-aware, and develop meaningful relationships as well as leadership, decision-making, and communications skills.
Between studying, getting involved in student organizations, participating in community service and volunteering, students may not spend much time in their rooms. But when they are in their room, they’ll have everything needed for comfortable living.
Each residence hall provides a community learning-living environment that is as unique as the students who live there. Here are some features common to RU residence halls:
• Wireless access in every room
• Spacious rooms (singles, doubles, and suites)
• Convenient kitchenettes
• Laundry facilities at no cost (only available to residential students)
• XFINITY on Campus
Rockford University offers an option of small house style living or larger complex style living for residents. Regardless of the option a student chooses, all housing options include a variety of room layouts including double rooms, single rooms, and suites.
Small houses promote a living environment that is conducive to learning, while providing the intimate feel of small community living. An RA, or Resident Assistant, lives on each floor for community development and student assistance. In addition, two graduate hall directors live on-campus, one oversees Caster and Olson Halls, the other Dayton and Svenson Halls.
Living in the Cummings Complex offers the best of both worlds. Four residence halls are connected to each other while still separate enough to maintain their own identity and an environment that is conducive to learning. Like the small houses, there is a Resident Assistant (RA) on each floor and two graduate hall directors that live in the complex . One graduate hall director oversees Emerson and Barnes Halls, the other oversees Talcott and Lathrop halls..
No smoking is allowed in any of the buildings on campus; however, designated smoking areas are available near the residence halls. Also, students who are 21 years of age or older are able to consume alcohol in designated areas. A complete list of university and residencel life policies and expectations can be found at https://www.rockford.edu/community/dean/student-handbook/

Student Activities
http://www.rockford.edu/community/studentactivities/
At Rockford University, students have more than enough opportunities to get involved in the campus community. Their voices are heard in student government, they take an active role on the Campus Activities Board, help program for commuter students with Commuter Council, or join one of our many clubs and organizations. We offer many different opportunities to get involved that it’s nearly impossible to be bored!
It’s a student’s right (and responsibility) to be as active as they possibly can and Student Activities at Rockford University can help. To find out more or to get involved at any point during the year, stop in the Student Activities Office in Burpee Student Center, check out the Club and Organization Fair at the start of each semester, or visit the website. For more information about student activities, call 815-394-5035 or “like us” on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/RockUActivities/
Student Success and Retention
http://www.rockford.edu/community/studentsuccess/
The Office of Student Success & Retention (SSR) is available to assist all students in their success at Rockford University in order to achieve the ultimate goal of a proud walk across the stage at commencement. The staff is available to meet with students who are experiencing academic, personal, or financial difficulties. We work to remove obstacles to students' achieving academic success by working closely with students experiencing academic difficulties and providing a connection to a valuable support network including tutors in the Center for Learning Strategies (CLS), Writing Center, Math/Science Lab as well as faculty/staff mentors and counselors at Lang Health.
SSR initiatives include tracking academic success of all students, monitoring academic alerts received by all students, and working closely with First-Year Advisors and all faculty. We collaborate with offices across campus to determine best practices for proactive interventions, provide connections to resources available on campus and assist students in their transition to Rockford University.
