ARTH 130 Art Appreciation
This course is designed specifically to give non-studio art majors an introduction to and general understanding of the visual arts through lectures and discussion. The formal elements, principles of design, and the various media and techniques of art making will be covered. In addition, this course explores the different ways in which art and the artist have been defined, notions or definitions of style, and the institutions (schools, museums, patrons) that have shaped and continue to shape artistic traditions. This course is not a survey of the history of art, but instead is intended to provide students with the tools, concepts, and vocabulary for understanding and discussing art.
