GNDR 105 Cross-Cultural Masculinities

This course will examine the construction of masculinities in various cultures around the world. Since all gender is a construction shaped by numerous variables, and since men and women are both marked by these influences, we will explore how masculinity and femininity are interconnected. Cultural examples will be drawn from the U.S., Western Europe, West Africa, the Caribbean, the Middle East, and Latin America. Students will study common readings from both fiction and non-fiction sources in a variety of media. They will also explore in greater depth topics of individual interest.
