PFMA 345 Rock the Audition

Rock the Audition is an intensive training course for students wishing to audition for rock/pop musicals. It will explore eight genres of popular styles of music that are currently represented on Broadway, from Motown to Country to Rap. In addition to finding and learning appropriate song cuts from each of these genres, students will also take an in-depth look at the era/decade in which the songs were written in order to discover the essence of that time period. Students will be coached on how to handle these popular styles vocally and stylistically, as well. Physical expression, songwriter interpretation, communication with the audition pianist, and maintenance of the actor’s individuality are topics that will also be discussed. The course is designed for upper-class performing arts students, especially BFA Musical Theater Performance majors.
