BIOL 145 Biology of Sex and Gender

Students will be introduced to basic biological concepts before exploring the evolution of sex and sexual reproduction across the tree of life. Students will then look specifically at the development of organisms with separate sexes, both to understand the role of sexes in sexual reproduction, and to understand the many ways in which development may not lead to clearly identified sex at birth. Students will then investigate the historical and current practices in intersex and transgender care, including but not limited to gender-affirming care. Finally, students will spend some time interrogating biological differences between the sexes.
