CHEM 220 Chemical Research Methods

This course provides an introduction to the general principles of analysis in the physical sciences. As such, it will serve as a valuable preparation for undergraduate research in chemistry and biochemistry. Several common types of instrumentation will be used to support the analysis of samples. Students will gain proficiency in the fundamentals of the measurement process, including sample preparation, the use of negative and positive controls, and the attendant reliability and uncertainty of such measurements. An introduction to formal Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) will also be addressed. Lecture: 2 hours.
