DANC 201 Dance History

This course will survey the history of dance form ancient societies to the present day through the lenses of racism, classism, social and political movements, gender issues, disability and ableism, cultural identities, and other important issues. With an emphasis on a decolonized perspective that doesn't prioritize westernized genres and approaches, the course will explore the linear timeline of how dances developed and evolved, and why dance is important to society, cultures, and indigenous peoples.
