MATH 501 History of Mathematics

This course examines the origins and development of Mathematics and many of its component fields, such as number concepts, numeration systems, arithmetic and its algorithms, algebra, geometry (Euclidean, non-Euclidean, and analytic), trigonometry, calculus and probability. Great mathematicians and their contributions, great breakthroughs, and classic problems will also be studied. For MATH 401, eleven essays (on assigned topics) per credit are required; for MATH 501, thirteen essays (on assigned topics) per credit are required.
