What is the meaning of life? Attempting to makes sense of this, perhaps the deepest question of all, this course is grounded in the works, figures, and ideas surrounding the tradition called "existentialism." Students will achieve a grounding in some of the ideas of well-known philosophers in the tradition such as Fyodor Dostoevsky, Jean-Paul Sartre, Albert Camus, and Friedrich Nietzsche, but the course will range well beyond such figures and include examples from film, literature, and popular culture (historical and contemporary examples).
