EDUC 297 Serve & Study Abroad - Education

This course is designed to provide the students in the Education Department with an opportunity to explore culturally responsive teaching and leading through a cross-cultural experience. Students in this course will interacting with people of a different country and be exposed to unfamiliar locations within unfamiliar territories. Through these experiences, students will have the opportunity to increase their cultural awareness and will have a better understanding of their reactions in different settings, as related to language and cultural differences. This course is designed to provide a three-pronged experience: Through this field experience course, 1) students will imbibe the spirit of global citizenship by engaging in a service and interacting with a different culture. 2) Students will explore culturally responsive pedagogy. 3) students will further Rockford University’s service mission, the Rockford University Education Unit Conceptual Framework, and the Illinois State Board of Education’s Culturally Responsive Teaching and Leading Standards (CRTL).
