HIST 230 Sports in World History

This course explores sports in world history with an emphasis on imperialism, nationalism, race, gender, and socioeconomic systems. The course is organized around units, each of which focus on a sport as a case study for better understanding major historical developments. Each of these units will use readings, lecture, discussions, and hands-on experiences of playing or practicing a sport to analyze the history of sports from a range of perspectives and in connection with the global systems that shape people’s identities and experiences.
