EDEC 320 Pre-Primary Teaching and Learning

XL: EDEC 520 This course provides a solid foundation of infant, toddler, and preschooler characteristics, care, and education based on current theory and research. Students will examine the health, safety, and nutritional needs of infants and toddlers as well as appropriate routines and developmentally appropriate activities to support cognitive, physical social and emotional growth. The use of formal and informal observation and assessment to guide decision-making and to inform instructional planning will be examined. The role of the teacher in facilitating growth through integrated play experiences will be emphasized. Developing appropriate learning environments to support effective instruction and learning in the following areas: speech and oral language development, literacy, arts, social studies and STEM, through differentiation and integrated themed units of study will be covered.
