EDEC 331 Lang Lit Methods Diverse Learners

XL: EDEC 531 This course provide students with the understanding of reading and writing as integrated processes. Students will learn developmentally appropriate techniques and methods in early literacy instruction for diverse populations, with special consideration for English language learners and struggling readers in the primary grades. Topics will include phonemic awareness and phonics, vocabulary development, comprehension strategies, emergent writing instruction, grammar and spelling, and children’s literature, as well as whole-class and small-group instructional strategies and assessment and evaluation of developing literacy skills. This course will focus on systematic, explicit, scientifically based reading/writing instruction and data-driven decision-making model.
