EDUC 647 Leadership Practices
Is "teacher leadership" another short-lived fad in education without any link to the reality of the actual work that teachers do in classrooms every day? How is power shared and distributed in schools in ways that enable teachers to effect school change? In this course, we will examine these and other relevant questions through the literature, the work of practitioners, and teacher leaders in the field. The evidence is strong from teacher leader initiatives: teacher leadership is impactful when teachers attain a deep understanding of curriculum, instruction and learning, school culture and organization, the complexities of power and control in schools, the possibilities of school transformation, and skills to lead others in this work.
This course is for students enrolled in the M.Ed. in Urban Education Program only.
