POLS 333 U. S. Diplomatic History 1800-1940

(XL: HIST 333) From its beginning, the United States had a foreign policy based on principles of exceptionalism, independent action, and manifest destiny. By the end of the 19th century, the nation emerged as a world power. This course examines foreign policy ideology, open door policy, U.S. hegemony in the western hemisphere, American imperialism, and the U.S. role in four international wars among other topics and events.

PRQ: 3 hours of history or consent of instructor.
