SPED 349 Communication, Language, and Assistive Technology

This course provides an overview of typical and atypical communication and language development, as well as language and communication disorders and delays in students from birth to age 21 years of age with disability across levels of severity. The course will address strategies for creating an enriching environment to stimulate language use and to facilitate spoken and written language development and generalization of appropriate communication and social skills in a variety of settings. In addition, this course will provide an overview of the types of assistive technology available to enhance learning outcomes and performance of students with mild, moderate, and severe disabilities. Also, the course provides an overview of strategies for incorporating technology, resources, and other media into instruction.
