PSYC 297 STEM/PSYCH/ Culture via Service Abroad

(XL: PHYS 297)  Students in this course will be interacting with the citizens of Ecuador and navigating themselves to unfamiliar locations within unfamiliar territories. Through these experiences students will have the opportunity to increase their cultural  sensitivity and will have a better understanding of their reactions in different settings related to the significance of language and cultural differences. This course is designed to provide a three-pronged experience:
1. Through this field experience course, students will imbibe the spirit of global citizenship by engaging in a service project and interacting with a different culture.
2. Students will engage with Physical Science concepts through design of STEM activities and teaching those to local elementary school students.
Or, students will be interacting and conversing with the local people with the goal of  increasing their knowledge of the customs and values.
3. By helping build a playground and thereby promoting a center for local cultural development, students will further Rockford University’s service mission.
