SOCI 303 Sociology of Family

This course focuses on the sociological study of the family as a basic social institution and its important functions in society. In this course, social, cultural, and historical changes that have altered the nature of family life will be examined. Cross-cultural description and analysis of family forms will be included, although the primary focus will be on family forms in the United States. This course will examine contemporary problems and issues that families encounter and the various approaches to dealing with these problems, including an examination of public policy.
