SPED 545 SPED Methods for Diverse Learners
This course is an introductory survey of the psychology, identification, and methods of instruction for the exceptional child, including, characteristics and needs of students with disabilities, legislation, litigation, inclusion, and the role of the classroom teacher as a member of the IEP team. Additionally, it covers the characteristics and methods of instruction for cross-categorical special education students. Topics include the impact of disabilities on cognitive, physical, emotional, social, and communication development; differences in students, approaches to learning; the development of instructional opportunities adapted to diverse learners; the family and community domains in relation to students with special education needs; and how the knowledge of the discipline, students, community and curriculum goals inform the planning and design of instruction.
