XL: EDEC 500 An overview of the field of early childhood education covering the historical roots and current issues, this course includes an introduction to a variety of early childhood programs: child care centers, family child care, parent-child centers, Head Start, hospitals, prekindergarten, preschools, and elementary schools. Emphasis is on elements common to all “best practices” programs, governing standards and regulations, historical perspectives, and career options for early childhood professionals. The course requires completion of field experience hours, a criminal background check (fee paid by student), a tuberculosis test (fee paid by student), and proof of immunizations.
