EDRD 302 Literacy Mtds & Beginning Rdg: Primary

XL: EDRD 502 This course examines the theories and foundations of literacy and language development in the primary grades. This course provide students with the understanding of reading and writing as integrated processes. Students will learn developmentally appropriate techniques and methods in early literacy instruction for diverse populations, with special consideration for English language learners and struggling readers. Topics will include phonemic awareness and phonics, vocabulary development, comprehension strategies, emergent writing instruction, grammar and spelling, and children’s literature, as well as whole-class and small-group instructional strategies and assessment and evaluation of early literacy skills. PRQ: Passing score on the Illinois Basic Skills Exam or the Test of Academic Proficiency (TAP) or the ACT Plus Writing/SAT composite. Scheduled: Spring, yearly. Meets: N
