BIOL 345 Mammalogy
A thorough examination of the fundamentals of mammalian biology. Focus will be placed on the ecology and evolutionary biology of mammals through examination of their origins, diversity, functional morphology, reproduction, behavior, population biology, ecological roles, classification and identification. Special attention will be placed on the mammals of northern Illinois. Laboratory sessions include field trips to oak and pine forests, tall grass prairies, lakes, rivers, and ponds in order to focus on the ecology and identification of local representative mammals. Lab work also includes observation mammalian skins, bones, and tissues. This course is part of the conservation and wildlife track.
