EDEC 300 Foundations of Early Childhood Education

(XL: EDEC 500)  An overview of the field of early childhood education covering the historical roots and current issues. It is an introduction to a variety of early childhood programs including: child care centers, family child care, parent-child centers, Head Start, hospitals, prekindergarten, preschools, and elementary schools. Teaching and learning emphasis is on elements common to all "best practices" on current theory and research. Governing standards and regulations, historical perspectives, and career options for early childhood professionals are included. Clinical hours, a criminal background check, a tuberculosis test, and proof of immunizations required.
