BIOL 314 Anatomy and Physiology I
This course is the first of a two semester sequence in both the anatomy and physiology of vertebrates, with a special focus on human structures and processes. We will carry out a comprehensive examination of the evolutionary relationships among vertebrate taxa. We will also thoroughly explore the anatomy and physiology of tissues, embryonic development, and the integumentary, skeletal, muscular, and nervous systems. The evolutionary origins of specific anatomical and physiological features will be presented to provide you a better understanding of why things function the way they do and how structures obtained their current function and position in the human organism. Laboratory sessions will focus on physical comparison of body systems across taxa, including appropriate representative organisms and models as a proxy for humans. In lab we will telescope from a microscopic to an organismal level. This course is part of the organismal biology track.
