ENGL 585 The Short Story and Literary Tradition

The evolution of short fiction crosses time and space as well as genre and subject matter. Not to mention length. Form. Structure. Even media. But what ties it all together begins with a key decision by the creator of the short story: perspective. This course will examine the potentiality of the Short Story and its myriad possibilities for use within the literature classroom, including critical theory, literary analysis, and multimodal approaches to understanding how the short story can be so much more than simply textual.
