SWRK 176 Introduction to Social Work

This course is an introduction to the profession, history and context of the field of social work. It introduces the knowledge, values, skills, and cognitive and affective processes of social work as a profession and explores the role of social workers within the broad arena of social welfare and social services, including policy practice. The course also addresses issues of ethical and professional behavior in the field of social work, the advancement of human rights and justice, and engagement with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities, and offers students the opportunity to assess whether a career in social work might be of interest to them.
