SWRK 225 Research Methods
This course provides an introduction to the fundamental research methods and statistical techniques used in social work practice and policy analysis. Students will explore both qualitative and quantitative research designs, emphasizing their application in real-world social work settings. Through a combination of lectures, discussions, and hands-on projects, participants will learn how to formulate research questions, design studies, collect and analyze data, and interpret findings to inform practice and improve client outcomes and policy formation. Key topics include ethical considerations in research, sampling strategies, data collection methods (surveys, interviews, and observations), and the use of statistical software for data analysis. Students will also examine the importance of evidence-based practice and the role of research in shaping social work policy. By the end of the course, students will develop a foundational understanding of research methodologies, enabling them to critically evaluate existing literature and conduct their own research projects.
