ANSO 304 Social Problems in the 21st Century

Any situation which a significant number of the members of a group regard as a threat to one or more of the groups' basic values and which they believe to be remediable by collective action is a social problem. This course focuses particularly on those social problems experienced globally and locally. Classical and alternative approaches to studying and alleviating social problems including, but not limited to crime, poverty, homelessness, violence, gender oppression, education, health care, and drug abuse will be analyzed. PRQ: ANSO 100 or 150, ANSO 295, or consent of instructor. Scheduled: When staffing allows. Meets: SNOR.
