SOCI 364 Exploring Cross-Cultural Diversity

This course will explore aspects of human cultural diversity that affect our relationships as human beings. There are different aspects to consider when exploring and deconstructing diversity as a human experience in the United States and around the world. Important in this analysis will be the understanding that diversity acknowledges categories of difference, and how these categories of difference are historically and culturally produced constructs that have major real and practical consequences for the lives of individuals (and groups) at a particular time and place. This course will challenge our comfort zones and will help us understand that diversity needs to be looked at in a new light so that we can handle its complexity and ambiguity. The course will help us to contemplate new paradigms that can be more adaptable to the current contexts of the 21st century.
