Dance Program Policies and Requirements (Majors and Minors)

  • Entry to the BFA program is by audition only.
  • All dance majors are required to audition for the dance concert every year. Dance minors must audition for at least two years. In addition, all majors and minors will be expected to assist with the production of the concert.
  • All majors must enroll in PFMA 100 every semester and complete a senior seminar project which will include a research component and, for BFA students, a performance/choreography component.
  • Students must receive approval either from their technique instructor or through a placement audition in order to advance to each subsequent level of technique. BFA majors must achieve the highest level of technique in both ballet and modern and BA majors in either ballet or modern.
  • All dance majors must maintain at least a 3.0 GPA in their major and a 2.0 GPA overall. Failure to do so will result in the student being placed on probation for the following semester in which case they will not be allowed to perform. After two consecutive semesters on probation without improvement, the student may be dismissed from the BFA program.
