EDUC 642 Education Law & Policy

This course explores the responsibilities of the K-12 school administrator in understanding and guarding the legal rights of the stakeholders in the school community through historical, socio-cultural, and economic lenses. Participants will examine state and federal laws, regulations, and case law affecting Illinois public schools and issues related to social justice, ethical decision-making, and school level decision-making. Participants will review the Illinois School Code and local district policies related to collective bargaining and the evaluation of licensed staff. Participants will learn frameworks to guide them in the process of making and enacting ethical decisions and the importance of teaching, promoting, and rewarding a caring and productive school climate. 

This course includes field experience and internship requirements aligned to the course objectives and Principal Illinois Administrative Endorsement for Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) licensure requirements.
