The HUB for Academic & Research Success
Andy Newgren, Dean of Library and Learning Innovation
The Hub for Academic and Research Success emphasizes peer-facilitated academic support options to increase student success and retention. Peer Academic Coaches and Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leaders participate in extensive training and our peer tutoring program received Level 1 International Tutor Training Program Certification from the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) in August 2021 and renews in 2026.
The HUB offers courses to help students enhance their reading, math, and learning strategies. Although they do not count toward hours required for graduation, the courses are counted when considering students’ semester course loads.
The HUB also offers the following services for Rockford University Students:
- Peer academic coaching (formally tutoring) and supplemental instruction (SI)
- Learning and study strategies assessment to identify academic strengths and challenges
- Research support including but not limited to research basics and citations
- Workshops to enhance student knowledge and application of college success strategies
- Placement testing
- Testing accommodations for student needs documented by Disabilities Support Services (DSS) in the Lang Health Department
