SPED 356 Literacy Mthds: Students w/ Disabilities

XL: SPED 556 This course will focus on systematic, explicit, scientifically-based reading/writing instruction and data-driven decision making model. Reading topics and assessments are structured around the five areas of reading phonemic/phonological awareness, decoding/phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Writing instruction will include explicit instruction in building writing skills, handwriting, accommodations, and written expression. Candidates will also incorporate authentic data collection into instructional plans and IEP development. PRQ: SPED 342; SPED 346; and passing score on the Illinois Basic Skills Exam, or the Test of Academic Proficiency (TAP), or the ACT Plus Writing/SAT composite.
