Sociology Minor

(24 credits)

The discipline of sociology explores the nature, structure, and dynamics of social life. Students who study sociology will gain a better understanding of groups, institutions, communities, and societies. Sociology examines how society is organized and how social forces influence human behaviors. Students will critically examine social stratification including, but not limited to, inequalities associated with social class, race and ethnicity, and gender. Sociology is a social science, and students will gain an understanding of how social scientific research is conducted. Students will build skills in critical thinking, research methods, and written and oral communication. 

Career Opportunities
Sociology majors go on to pursue careers in fields as diverse as advocacy, business, education, government, human services, law, public administration, social and community services, and social and market research.

Required Concentration Courses (12 credits)

At least 4 courses in Sociology (SOCI) or Criminal Justice (CRMJ). At least 2 must be 300-level or above.
